File Commander in Mac

Post by *tungwaiyip »

Just borrow this forum to ask a Mac question. I have recently bought a Mac. I am really looking for a decent file manager. I tried something call muCommander (http://www.mucommander.com/). It is not bad if not rather limited in features. I wonder if anyone has any recommendation.

Another Commander is Disk Order (not free):

Finally you can find a MacOS X port of the Unix file manager mc (midnight commander):

Sorry that I cannot port TC, there is no Delphi programming language for the Mac. Converting to a different language (e.g. C/C++ for Total Commander Pocket) was a big task, and I could port only a tiny part of the program...

Thanks for your links. You done a really good job for TC. It is probably one of the biggest thing that lock me into using Windows as the primary machine.

@tungwaiyip: I'm having the same "problem": I am totally happy with my PowerrrBook, except for not having TC4OSX :-(

You can try several other filemanagers (just like I did), but you won't find anything like TC, it's simply the best:
XFolders: http://www.kai-heitkamp.com/
or
XNC: http://xnc.dubna.su/
Krusader: http://krusader.sourceforge.net/
but these last two are both Linux apps, XNC seems to run on OSX, but for Krusader you need to install Gentoo for OSX (i haven't got this working, yet).
I'm not a freak, I'm just curious!

If you understand german this Thread may be interesting for you too.

Regarding Krusader, gentoo for OS-X isn't the only way. I've made a fink binary package but also with this you won't be totaly satisfied. First it's only version 1.40 (we're preparing 1.60 atm) and you need the kdelibs. Fink does provide binaries for kde but you have not a realy good integration with OS-X (unless you're using a lot of other KDE programms).
Anyway, if you want to try it out you'll find the fink-package on our homepage.
