I can't find search & replace in current search function.

Re: Feature Request: Search and replace in multiple files
What you are asking is rather a completely different feature than the task the search function has. It’s a search for files and that’s it!petergus wrote:Search for a text in multiple files and replace it with something else.

Applications that do allow multiple search & replace are file editing tools and not file searching tools.
Let’s not confuse file searching and string searching. The ability of TC to search for text within a file is emphasized on the file and not on the string itself even if the string is what the user is trying to locate.
Probably what you are asking should be applied to Lister and not the search function.

Re: Feature Request: Search and replace in multiple files
AFAIK it's not implemented in TC.petergus wrote:Search for a text in multiple files and replace it with something else.
I think, however, many people use different tools to replace text in multiple files and as it's related to files (like TC

What do you think about it Christian?
Re: Feature Request: Search and replace in multiple files
My idea was a totally new function called Search and Replace Tool.pdavit wrote:Probably what you are asking should be applied to Lister and not the search function.
Mark a couple of files or a folder and enter the Search and Replace tool.
Just like you do in Multi-Rename-Tool & Synchronize Dirs tool.

You are right, there are really lot of different "Search & Rename" tools but... I still would like to see it in TC
As I often do lot of operations on text files just with notepad or similar tools (very often I search files with specified text in the disk and then replace some texts file by file), it would be really helpful to be able to do it with TC instead of using other tools
But that's only my dream...

AgentRansack cannot replace text, just search, can it?

Didn't try this but I like Search and Replace by www.funduc.com. It is able to search for multiple lines and replace with multiple lines in multiple files, with regular expressions. Very powerful. Can be invoked on selected files/folders via context menu (integrated in a shell).

Indeed, these is a long awaited and a very useful function that still TC misses it !petergus wrote:My idea was a totally new function called Search and Replace Tool.pdavit wrote:Probably what you are asking should be applied to Lister and not the search function.

This would be a great feature!
I have been using Total Commander for many years now. During this time I had it almost continuously active on my desktop and I use it on a daily basis.
The lack of this feature is however for me a single point of anoyance. Today has been the third time this year I have been moving around some HTML and XML files, in which I need to replace one string for an other. In this case the changed company logo. I use Total Commander for renaming files, moving them around, finding the files with the old logo, starting notepad, uploading to the web server, etc. However, at the moment I want to replace the logo with a new one ..... I have to search for a stand alone search and replace tool, select the files with this tool, etc.
Oh yes, I would be very very very happy with search and replace functionality. Even more happy then I'm already with Total Commander 5.5

Well I just select the files or directories in TC and - through the right mouse menu - apply Eluent Replace on them. Dear I say that I find it an even better work of art^H^H^Hsoftware then TC? www.eluent.comI have to search for a stand alone search and replace tool, select the files with this tool, etc.
