Post by *Michel32 »

Maybe a automatic update function in the help menu would a cool thing.

Btw I like the TC7 style :)

Best Regards

I think it would be a good idea and it can have a extra reason for fighting with ilegal versions, maybe only a update with full versions and not beta versions ;)

Sorry im against a online-update-check.
Thats the first thing I allways turn off
and especially a filemanager doesnt need such crap.

PS: that wouldnt do ANYTHING against fighting illegal Versions as the Main Prob is that u can find to many keys in the net...

I understand you exactly I have also the update function disable by software That I diddn't register by the right way but with software that I have payed I have always a reminder on, with (I don't mean you are use a ilegal version but is for everyone difference)

I agree with you there are to many keys on the net so a little protection is better as nothing look many other software sometimes is verry difficult to find a worked key look newsleecher,virtuagir2,windows and many other software the most problems with patching software are the programs that use the net for checking updates and online registrations....

[mod]Discussing illegal activities is not welcome here. Stay on topic, please.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

SOrry Michel i wasnt talking about illegal software.
I talked about software I own. I dont like Software
checking for Updates (apart from my VirenScanner)
all my bought software has this option immediatly off
as it is no use.
And I dont think a FileManager who gets an Update
once a year needs an online check for a new Version.
And I dont want any news either to be loaded on startup
(I have the Game Warblade wich does this and i hate it
as it makes startup slower...)

So pls NO Auto-Update in TC :D

Me too. If enough people find this useful, maybe Christian will consider it. Personally i find it unnecessary.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.

I also dislike the automatic checking for updates, but the option of manual checking will be a decent thing. Such option may work differently, starting from request for last TC version number and prompting user, when the new version is ready for manual download, and finishing to automatic download of new (i.e. changed) components, if user has asked for it.

But for me the simple version check and user information will be enough as the first approach. Could it be implemented as a separate plugin?

I agree It can be a option like this ...

Image: http://www.wolvesheaven.com/tc7/update.jpg

Give people the choice to use it when they want or to dissable it when they don't wanna use it ;)

I agree because this option would use far to much performance and cause to much webtraffic.

You can subscribe to the Total Commander newsletter to receive a update notification.

@ Sir_SiLvA
There's a "TCUpdater 1.01 Build 58" on your Total Commander Site. Could you please give some more info about it?

Well, if you do not visit the site regularly, it is a good option. I've been using it for quite some time and even if i don't visit the site for a week or so, i still get the notification. It is a useful reminder.
