No warning if file name truncated

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

No warning if file name truncated

Post by *Norbert »

When copying a file to a directory that leads to a file path name longer then 260 characters, the file name is truncated without a warning. In Explorer an error message is shown.

Ups, I don't read every thread in this forum. ;-) And this happens the first time to me. The funny thing is, the truncation leads to a very long extension of the file (over 130 characters after the last dot), and another program can't handle this and crashes.

Regards, Norbert

PS: I vote for an (switchable) error message too.

I guess I understand what you mean because I remember the other thread well. But anyway please go to the other thread and quote the specific suggestion. The benefits would be:
1. It is 100% clear to everyone what you mean by "switchable error message".
2. The votes for the feature (or rather BUG FIX) are not split into two threads.
