Incorrect remote NTFS link behaviour

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Incorrect remote NTFS link behaviour

Post by *0x90 »

After "entering" remote NTFS folder link "\\Server\C$\Users\Default User" on Windows 2008 Server TC navigates to local folder "C:\Users\Default\" instead of "\\Server\C$\Users\Default\" on local Windows Vista SP1.

Is this really a bug?

"Default user" is a <JUNCTION> pointing to "c:\User\Default".

Junction points (in opposite to symlinks) are for local directories only and do not support remote shares.

Add these pre vista compatibility links to your ignore list and navigate directly to "\\Server\C$\Users\Default"

Yes, but any intelligent behavior instead of basic logic?

No. I think in any case supporting this incorrect action for remote <JUNCTION> is incorrect. No action for this better than such action.

HolgerK wrote:An option like Herr Mann's suggestion from the corresponding german thread
"Ignore/hide Symlinks and Junctions with hidden and or system attribute"
would be nice, especially if the size of these linked directories would not be taken into account.

I agree that for remote folder TC should go to folder \\Server\C$\Users\Default\ - its not so hard to modify path if user is in network folder.

I disagree, an option to ignore/hide such pre vista compatibility hacks is the best.

Such an action (access to local paths) would also happen if you are using scripts to access remote vista machines.

An admin should know how to access the correct paths on remote 2008/vista/win7 machines.
