1) Try to change dir;
2) The same - search string;
3) The same - check all checkboxes off;
4) Restart TC and retry;
5) Restart computer and retry.

In other words - two crashes say nothing. Try to find some dependency (source dir, subdirs depth, search text, checkboxes, plugins, etc).

Vochomurka, I can't reproduce also, but maybe Mr. Ghisler using bug report will really find some bug that may take place in rare cases. I think that if bug is in TOTALCMD.exe it should be localized and fixed, if it is in plugins or system DLLs - it is not a TC fault.

1. I get this error on different directories also.
2+3. As mentioned , this crash is specific to that string and only to those 2 options. Any change and the issue will not appear.
4. Taking into account that TC crashes completely, I suppose there is no need to 'restart' it.
5. Taking into account the following results (inconsistency), I suppose there is no need to reboot. But I tested that: first search no error, second search - crash.

I other words, using those options, I can crash it countless times. I only wrote about 'a second test' because I didn't had time to check all the variables to see what options can reproduce the error. I use Win7 x64.
I have some other results:
- crash with edit\a , whole words+unicode
- crash with edit\a , whole words+unicode, different directory
- no crash with edit\q , whole words+unicode
- running edit\q and then edit\a or edit \n, without closing the search window, no crash

That's much better. Some questions:
1) Can you make TC crash if there is no backslash in the search sring?
2) Replace the "edit" word with, say, "kiss", other things being equal. Does something change?
3) After finding the "crash parameters", turn unicode off (if on). Does the crash repeat?

1. Yes - tested with string: test -> crash
2. kiss\n -> crash
3. I don't know how to turn it off or on.

Yes, I confirm (WinXPx64Eng, TC7.55pb1).
Search text: anystring\n
Checkboxes: Whole words, Unicode
"Search for", "Case sensitive" checkbox, current dir, UTF8 have no effect on the bug.
If to start TC with an empty ini, the bug persists!
Later I'll check another configuration: WinSe7enx64Eng, TC7.55pb3.

Added
The bug is reproduced there, too.

I can confirm the bug in versions prior to TC 7.55 rc1 - and that it is fixed as from version 7.55 rc1 (not pb1).
