Total Commander crashs if Adobe X and classic shell is inst.

Post by *rj.2001 »

If adobe acrobat X is installed (in my case the trial version) and also the classic shell explorer is installed, the TC crashs on an long right click on an folder.
I wrote this to the bug tracker of the classic shell, but I don't know who is responsible for that. Here my post:
After a research and many tests I found the reason for the TC crash.
Ok, let me explain:
The TC-crash only appears by an long right click on an folder or by
pressing Alt+Return...
- but this only happens, if this click is the first long click in TC,
don't select any file before!
- and Adobe Acrobat X musst be installed.

True...
on an naked system without Adobe Acrobat X, I can install classic explorer
and TC without any crash on long right clicks.
on an naked system without classic shell, I can install Adobe Acrobat X
and TC without any crash on long right clicks.

Anyway.
Adobe installs right-click context menu items.
Right click in explorer on an folder shows 2 context items, on an file it
shows me only 1 adobe entry.

So, a workaround is to delete the adobe context entrys, by doing that:
delete the following folders:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\Adobe.Acrobat.ContextMenu
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
delete the following registry entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell
Extensions\Approved\{D25B2CAB-8A9A-4517-A9B2-CB5F68A5A802}

After that I can use the installed Adobe Acrobat X, the complete classic
shell suite and the Total Commander, without any crashs by an long right
click on a folder in TC.

If you want to test, you can download the Acrobat X Trial here:
https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=acrobat_pro&loc=en
See: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3163068&group_id=290975&atid=1230788
Wrong shell extension? Maybe. But is it adobe or the classic explorer. Or is it the TC?

Thanks for help.

I haven't heared of any problems with Adobe Acrobat X and the TC context menu so far. Please try to reinstall Adobe Acrobat X.

If this doesn't help, try using ShellExView (search this forum for instructions) to find the real reason.

Hello, Christian.

The presence of Adobe Reader 10 alone is not sufficient. As I understand you also have to be using the Classic Shell Explorer replacement in order to experience the reported problem.

Kind regards,
Karl
