On Russian winxp I see a Russian letter Я instead of β (or ß) everywhere.
PS. Why do you use ß (\ss) instead of β (\beta)?

Unfortunately that part of the 32-bit version isn't yet Unicode-enabled because the 32-bit version has to work on Win9x/ME too.

In this case it's better to type 'b' instead of \ss.
