Long time to delete files in WINDOWS 7 32bit

Post by *anjobaba »

I wanted to delete my backup from the external HDD.
total commander was very slow in deleting files it took 2-3 hours to delete 20% of 44GB directory and subdirectories.
I aborted the process and try to delete the rest 80% with file explorer provided by winsows7.
deleted in 3 minutes!!!

is that normal? I used TC for so many years!!! and now I am scare to use it...

Have you deleted files into recycle bin? Explorer in W7 uses lazy method, it puts entire top-level folders into recycle bin while TC deletes every file separately (like older Windows versions did). Also there are some other problems with W7.

You may try TC 8 - it supports same delete method as Explorer uses.

VistaDelete was introduced earlier, in one of the 7.5x versions, it just needs to be set to 1 explicitly there.
Flint's Homepage: Full TC Russification Package, VirtualDisk, NTFS Links, NoClose Replacer, and other stuff!

Using TC 10.52 / Win10 x64

Could your anti-virus be an issue here?

I was doing a really huge delete that I estimate would have taken a week. I finally killed the task and redid it with shift-F8 to avoid the recycle bin and it took a few minutes.

I know it was the AV that was the issue as it was pegging out my CPU.
