Everything search, thumbnail results in TC?

Post by *cartoonmonkey »

I've been browsing the forum for the last hour or so, and couldn't find an exact easy answer to this question:

Using the FSE plugin, can I use everything search inside total commander?
Or, use Everything Search, then have thumbnail results to my nearly instant search put out to total commander?

After all this reading, I think I have the plugin FSE.wfx being recognized inside total commander.

However, I'm missing something. I need to search through the plugin interface, yes? (Binoculars) First choosing my drive to search. (Or all of them)

I see a search start to happen, but it isn't instant, or as quick as using Everything. So I have to believe that the plugin isn't working correctly.

Anyone help a TC noob? Long time Everything user, first time TC / FCE user.

:)

I think you are not using the FSE search but the built in search.
To use the FSE plugin, you need to click the network neighborhood icon beside the drive icon in toolbar, then you can find FSE icon. Click it, click new search, you will get a dialog.

To use everything with FSE, you need to have everything run in background, then set everything as the default engine in the first time running FSE.

I'm not sure what thumbnail results you talked about.

There are also other launch methods, you can find them in the readme.txt in FSE folder.

Search could be launched in several ways:

1. Search with parameters. Enter into plugin and execute "New Search" item.
This method allows to specify several search options like size, date, regexp.
If any file found plugin creates corresponding upper level folder and
automatically enters into it.

2. Search based on previous search. Invoke properties for created result, change
any parameter and press "Search" button.

3. Quick Launch (from TC, filenames only). Press Alt+F7 in TC and type in the
"Search for" field search request like: "\\\FSE\<search string>\". Don't
forget trailing backslash.

4. Quick Launch (from plugin, filenames only). Press F7 at upper level and
type search string.
