Which archive type? Some archives cannot be modified, e.g. 7zip or cab. You can install a 7zip plugin if you need to change 7zip files.

You are not the talkative type, are you? What kind of RAR archive do you try to copy to (RAR or SFX)? Is the archive locked? Is the archive stored in a read-only place? Are there any file permissions that prevent changes to the archive? What (error) message do you get from TC while trying to copy to an archive?

You have to install some version of the official RAR program.
No other programs can write or update RAR files because of licence reasons.
If you configure TC for the installed RAR program copy and move to archive will work.

I wave the same setup on TC8.01 and TC8.50b5:
use C:\Programmi\WinRAR\RAR.exe.
The archive is not locked, TC8.01 works TC8.50b5 fail,
the message is "Errore di compressione"
TC8.05b5 fail when update or remove file from archiive, TC8.01 works
the file %user%\AppData\Roaming\GHISLER\ is the same for tc 8.01 and 8.50b5

Code: Select all

[Packer]
ZIPlikeDirectory=1
InternalUnarj=1
ARJlongnames=0
InternalUnlzh=1
InternalUnrar=1
InternalUnace=1
LinuxCompatible=1
ARJ=arj.exe
LHA=lha.exe
RAR=C:\Programmi\WinRAR\RAR.exe
UC2=uc.exe
ACE=ace32.exe
LastUsedPacker=4

Did you try to use WinRAR.exe instead of rar.exe?

The problem is RAR.EXE 4.x - WinRAR 4.x and RAR/WinRAR 5 should all work OK. I will support RAR.EXE 4.x in the next beta.

I tested RAR.EXE 4.00 and 4.20 with both TC8.50b6 32-bit and 64-bit (all 4 combinations).
OS is Windows 7 Pro x64.

Both copying/moving files or directories (F5/F6) into archives work okay.
