Total Commander for Windows Phone - A Primer; What TCWP Does

Post by *Phred »

Please check the latest entries to this thread since they will become cumulative as posts add descriptions of TCWP's capabilities and methods.
.
TCWP has arrived on a Nokia/Msft 925 phone and it looks much like TC for Android in that it has two swipeable panels for one-to-the-other file operations.
So far, it doesn't appear to have any push-and-pull LAN functionality, as TC/A does via its plugin.
.
TCWP presents folders in a vertical arrangement for:
Photos
Music
Video
User-defined location
FTP
OneDrive
Dropbox
Google Drive
WebDAV
WiFi.

Descriptions for each of these will follow, and find their way into the Wiki.

Photos, Music and Video folders are self-explanatory. Their association with folders of the same name in OneDrive will be tested.
As of this writing, WiFi appears to offer a receptacle for accommodating placement and withdrawal of files from another wifi-capable device.
On an N/925 it is currently displaying the 'receiver' message box then activating the device's camera and taking flash photos. Error to be reported.

Please add your experiences with FTP, OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive and WebDAV.

Try beta 14, this has just been added!

I have disabled the flash in code, but unfortunately some phones seem to ignore that. :(

TCWP (aka 'GhislerTC') operates on Windows Phone 8.1 looking much like Total Commander itself in that it has two swipeable panels for one-to-the-other file managing.
It allows the common file management operations - copy/move, delete, rename, search, etc.
From Beta 14 (July '15) it has push-and-pull (copy/move - bidirectional) LAN functionality, as have TC itself and TC for Android (built-in functionality for Windows and Windows Phone; via a plug-in for Android).

TCWP presents folders in a vertical arrangement of:

Home folder
A list of all subordinate folders. When a sub-folder is entered, a 'hook' icon at the top of the list column allows return to the next higher level.
Photos
Containing Camera Roll, (My) Pictures, Public Pictures, Sample Pictures, Saved Pictures, Screenshots*
[*press and hold the Volume and Power Up buttons; release both]
Music
An open folder that accepts file & folder placement so that those files display in the in-built music app, or tile. Being media files, of course, they will play, at this stage, in the phone's standard player.
'Open with' is available but not currently functional.
The ubiquitous VLC free media player is available as a native app, however 1.3.3.7 does not recognise 'non-store' audio files as playable ones.
The Music folder contains a special 'Podcasts' folder, placed there and controlled by the system. Podcasts (audio files) chosen via the internal app are downloaded (optionally) into this folder, or just streamed, and registered - remembered - and displayed with their associated graphics. Any other audio files will not appear in the Podcast app screens; they are best placed in Music itself.
WPTC can view and delete these podcast files; files it places there will not be recognised as podcasts.
Video
An open folder that accepts file & folder placement so that those files display in the in-built video app, or tile. Being media files, of course, they will play, at this stage, in the phone's standard player.
'Open with' is available but not currently functional.
User-defined location
A folder allowing for short-cut selection of any of the other standard folders, including Documents and Ring tones
[back-arrow/escape to cancel/return]
FTP
A standard FTP configuration set of fields.
OneDrive
Direct access to the integral Microsoft Account sign-on's OneDrive storage/sync cloud file-space.
Dropbox
Direct access to the user's Dropbox cloud storage file-space.
Google Drive
Direct access to the user's Google Drive and web-app cloud storage file-space.
LAN
As described above, standard access to a user's Local Area Network. Setup pleasantly allows UNC (Universal Naming Convention) entry - OfficeServer/Users for example - or the more complex IP address method - 192.168.1.7/Users, say. Setup also requires a username and password, as would be expected, to access matched accounts on LAN member computers.
WebDAV
For access to web sites' folder structures, when permitted. (Needs expansion/correction)
WiFi
Perhaps not an intuitively named item that activates and accesses websites via photographed QR (quadratic residual/quick response) codes - the dotted squares seen on products and advertisements that contain complex mathematical multi-dimensional encoded information, typically URL addresses.
Choosing this 'folder' activates the phone's camera for recording and interpretation of a QR image.
QR codes lead the device to specific web pages for advertisement or immediate access. Access requires, of course, a live WiFi or mobile signal internet link. (Needs expansion/correction)
