How to put External editor in context menu?

Post by *Frappuccino »

I have configured notepad++ as external editor but when I want to edit a file by selecting edit via the context menu it still opens in 'standard' notepad instead of notepad++.

It only seems to work using the F4 button but as far as I know the context menu did also work this way with the latest stable release.

How-to: external editor in the context menu

Post by *Stefan2 »

Welcome guys to the community.

The EDIT entry in the context menu is the system default.

"Config > Edit/View > Editor for F4" is for F4 and Shift+F4 key only.

To add own context menu entries, see menu "Files > Internal Associations.

See e.g. petermads' Tutorial: http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?t=40100

( More background info: http://www.ghisler.ch/wiki/index.php/Internal_File_Associations_Tutorial )

Peter, may I add your tutorial into my Generic how-to's thread?

Well, it probably never worked like I mentioned in the first post.

What I most likely did was selecting the file and then click the edit button on the function key button bar. This way the external editor does pop up.

May I suggest F4Menu?

F4Menu pops up a context menu upon pressing F4, the user then chooses an appropriate editor for the selected file. Certainly, it is also possible to run F4Menu in the background without showing the menu and automatically open a file with its associated editors.

Frappuccino: Well in case of notepad++ it is easy.

Just follow the wiki:
