Thumbnail view fast search filtering did not work

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Thumbnail view fast search filtering did not work

Post by *DuckDaffy »

Tested in TC9.0 RC6 x64 and also in older versions.

1. Go to directory with a lot of photos and another files (~200 in my case). Best to every second file is not JPG, like this.
file1.txt
file2.jpg
file3.txt
file4.jpg
...
Screen divided to 50/50, thumbnail picture set to 144x144 px (six at line).

2. Switch to thumbnail view (CTRL+SHIFT+F1), you see all thumbnails on half screen, do not roll down!

3. Use fast filtering, for example write "JPG".

4. Now you can see thumbnails (already loaded) and below picture icons, which thumbnails is not refreshed/loaded when fast search filtering used.

5. If there is not enough pictures to fill screen and scroll down, then there is impossible to reload and view all thumbnails.

Workaround - use filtering first and then use thumbnail view, but it is not so elegant, when you need to work with photos fast and still switching between list and thumbnail view...

Hope it will be confirmed and it is fixable bug.

Indeed thumbnail loading is stopped when you start using the quick filter. This is intentional, because otherwise the thumbs could go to the wrong files.

It means that there is another bug deeper which cause wrong thumbs?
Is it fixable please? It is really unexpected behaviour when we work with thousand of photos and need quick search to sort and filter it before next step...

No it doesn't. It means that once the search filter is applied, TC cannot ensure that the thumbs queued for extraction will go to the right files, so the extraction is stopped.

And when thumbs are already in TC thumbs cache? Will it helps?
I understand that thumbs extraction queue is very time consuming and fast search after every char is next big load too, so I suggest to add icon "refresh" in fast search row, like has CTRL+S, for enable/disable refresh thumb content for actual filter, or to work like F5 (in web browsers) = force refresh now. Thx!
