Integrate 7zip into total commander core

Post by *nick58 »

7zip is a best archiver, he gives most great compression.
And he is free.
Maybe it;s time to include 7zip into total commander core, and give possibility to compress files and manage compression settings?
7zip plugins, currently presented, is not ideal and have bugs.

7zip is not free, it is Open Source and has GNU LGPL license!
So that would be a bad idea to include that code into a commercial product directly.

and then what about the rar?
it is charged.
it would be good to have an option to 7z instead of arj or UC2 or ace that are not used.

Plugin-based compression have more chances for bugs to be fixed soon than core-based one...

The RAR integration is only that box in "Configuration > Packer" to call an external packer executable.

Yes, Mr. Ghisler could do the same with 7zip too, I guess. That would be ok.

Why there is still ARJ, LHA and UC2, which are used only rarely this days,... I don't know. But I'm sure there is a answer somewhere hidden in the forum.

But there are some nifty Add-Ons / Plugins to integrate other packers as 7zip as well, which comes with own dialog boxes, no need for TCs- Configuration dialog.

But would be a great idea to bring that TC Packer configuration dialog up to date, me think too.

Actually LGPL is allowed in commercial products when the code is provided as a separate DLL, not compiled into the program. But I decided not to build 7zip compression into TC because it offers so many options - better use the external 7zip or total7zip plugin.

So many options? Just use it for zip and 7zip (lzma2) compression.
