Adjust Tabs to window width now working correctly

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Adjust Tabs to window width now working correctly

Post by *Thany »

In custom columns, there's this checkbox "Adjust Tabs to window width", which doesn't really work well at all.

I've ticked it for a certain column configuration. But it doesn't fill up the columns to the window width. It does resize the combined filename+ext columns, but only when the window is bigger than some arbitrary size. It never shrinks the filename column and it never makes the columns fill up the window width.

What I expect the checkbox to do, is make every column as big as specificed, *except* for the filename+ext columns - those will fill up the remaining space. I'm not sure what its algorithm is trying to do, but certainly not what anyone would expect.

It's working as intended. See TC help (search for custom columns):
Adjust Tabs to window width

Changes the width of the name column when you change the size of the main window, the same as in configuration - tabstops for full view.

No it doesn't. It only ever lets the name column grow, and only when the TC window is bigger than something like 1600 pixels wide.

Yes, it does. But only when "Horizontal scrollbar" is disabled. It wouldn't make any sense to resize anything when there's a scrollbar.

EDIT: Not sure if there's another bug in there, but now it works even when scrollbars are enabled. Strange.
