Password for archives is requested but not utilized
When we have to create a new archive ... ZIP (internal compressor), RAR or 7Z external compressor ... and we choose to create a crypted archive ... the password is requested but not utilized.
External archive creator wcx_7zip_0.7.6.6.bin.zip ... doesn't work with this version of Total Commander

This? Which exactly version do you use? I doubt that there were changes that could make external packers incompatible with recent TC versions.sscireca wrote:with this version of Total Commander
I've just created an encrypted ZIP archive using internal compressor, files are encrypted as expected, so it works as it should, and TC also properly passes -p switch to an external RAR packer when I enable encryption. Tested with 32-bit TC 9.10RC3 and 9.12RC2.
But if you create encrypted archives with external packer, encryption checkbox really may not work with 7Z because TC doesn't support external 7Z packer, it doesn't know 7Z packer's syntax at all... Please describe BTW how do you install and use external 7Z packer with pack dialog when it is not supported by TC.

Not confirmed at allsscireca wrote:When we have to create a new archive ... ZIP (internal compressor), RAR or 7Z external compressor ... and we choose to create a crypted archive ... the password is requested but not utilized.

wcx_7zip_0.7.6.6.bin.zip works perfectly in TC 9.12RC2
Configured external RAR version 5.50 and no problems to create archive
with a password from TC dialog.
Also internal ZIP works fine with password dialog for encryption

Not confirmed either. Maybe you are confused because you can unpack the files without re-entering the password? This happens because Total Commander remembers the password until either you

ZIP file: the process starts and ends very well ... but the file is not encrypted
RAR file: (external RAR archiver .... rar.exe 5.50) ... the same result
7Z file: the same result
I've restarted the OS ... then I checked files ... and they are not encryptd
I deemed that wcx_7zip_0.7.6.6.bin.zip was compatible with TC ...!

OK.
First I've correctly configured the Packer panel in Options.
That is .... RAR.EXE external packer and external packer for 7Z
I describe the process for ZIP, but it' the same for RAR ... obviously I select RAR e 7Z ....
1) I select in left panel a folder containing some files
2) I pressi ALT+F5
3) ... I control the selected packer ... ZIP
4) I first and second ckeckbox ... and the last ENCRIPT
5) I press OK
6) I insert the password in the input fild ... and press OK
7) I RE-insert the same previous password .... and press OK
TC provides to create the compressed folder in right panel
If I try to open the compressed folder ... I can open it WITHOUT password
I restart the system
The when I open TC .... and I try to open the compressed folder ... I can open it WITHOUT password.
I have tried to open the same compressed folder with winrar 5.50 and 7ZIP ... and In can open the compressed folder WITHOUT password.
That's all.

Which means that you can see the directory listing of the archived filenames?sscireca wrote:I have tried to open the same compressed folder with winrar 5.50 and 7ZIP ... and In can open the compressed folder WITHOUT password.
But can you unpack the content / the files without entering a password?

Encrypted archives can always be opened without any password, unless file names are encrypted! If file names are not encrypted, the unpacker will ask for a password as soon as you try to view/unpack any file, i.e. access the archive's contents. In other words: TC will ask for a password when you press F3 on a file to view it.
Note that ZIP archives can not encrypt file names; only RAR and 7zip archives support that type of encryption.

Many thanks Dalai ... !!!
I apologise to the Forum.
I used encrypted compression some time ago and reminded myself of the password request in the encrypted file, but I didn't remember that this happened ONLY when I try to open in files within a compressed file.
Now everything is clear and it works perfectly.
I have installed Total7Zip and everything works correctly as you have indicated.
Thank you and good work.
