"Access denied" opening file directly

Post by *amach »

I'm using latest version (9.12 final, 64-bit) and I just noticed something strange: when I try to open a .cs file (C# source code) by typing Enter over it, it gives "Access denied" error. When opening other file types, the error doesn't occur. I've found this topic in another TC forum and then tried to open it via context menu, but then it didn't show any error (popped up Windows's dialog asking which app I'd like to use, the same as when I try to open the file in Windows Explorer).
If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10.9)

It's probably a damaged/bad association. Explorer is more fault tolerant here than ShellExecuteEx used by Total Commander.

You can either define an internal association just for Total Commander (via Files - Internal Associations), or try to use right click - open with - choose other app. Then check the option to always open with that app.

I have the same problem with .pbix (Power BI) files. What is strange I chose Power BI as a default program to open this file type. I checked in Settings -> Choose default apps by file type that it's there. In Windows Explorer it works fine. Any idea how to repair it?

Please use my tool RegistryInfo to gather information about the misbehaving file association, then please post it here:
