Help -> Visit Totalcmd's Web Site is not working

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Help -> Visit Totalcmd's Web Site is not working

Post by *thims »

Total Commander 9.12 Final (x64), Windows 10 (1709), Latest Chrome.

When clicking the Help -> Visit Totalcmd's Web Site, I just get a new instance of Chrome opened with default page.

Not confirmed with Opera 49 set as default browser. I don't have installed Chrome.

Works here with Chrome as Default Browser.
So there is something wrong with your System or you are running Chrome in background with higher rights.

Total Commander just calls ShellExecute() with the URL and the "open" verb. Maybe the association doesn't use "open" by default, or is otherwise incorrect.

For some reason, Total Commander 9.12 (x64) is the only program on my computer that can't open url from menu. All other programs work flawless (including software products of my company, they also use ShellExecute to open urls).

Hmm, works fine here with SeaMonkey 2.49.2 as default browser with TC 9.12 x64. Testet under Windows XP, 7, 8.1 and 10.

I also testet with Chrome af defalut browser under Windows 10 - works fine too.

May I suggest that you change your default browser to something else, and then change it back to Chrome - maybe that can fix it for you.

You can use "Settings" -> "Apps" -> "Default apps" -> "Web browser" for this - to make sure it is Windows and not the browser that makes the setting.

Help -> Visit Totalcmd's Web Site, this works correctly and as expected even under Linux Mint:
+ Linux Mint 17.1
+ Wine 1.6.2
+ Total Commander 9.12
Help -> Visit Totalcmd's Web Site -> launches the default browser Pale Moon 27.8.3 (Linux edition) with the webpage http://www.ghisler.com/ loaded

Are you perhaps running TC with higher user rights (as administrator)? Then launching URLs will fail if the browser is alreadfy running with standard user rights.

Maybe not. But I just tried with all my browsers: Internet Explorer, SeaMonkey, FireFox, Google Chrome, Opera and Safari - and it works with all of those at least

That was on Windows 7 - Since Windows 10 often have its own ways I tried there too with Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge (ew!), SeaMonkey and Google Chrome - that's all I have installed on Win 10 - and for these it works okay as well.
