I know there are threads where this has been requested before (probably by me), but I have started seriously trying out a competitor commander that will display (or not!) a folder tree in each tab.
Wow! This is a wonderful way of working! My current configuration in that tool is two tabs per panel with a tree displayed in each, the rest of the tabs in each panel locked (to specific folders) w/o trees displayed. In the locked tabs, I have disabled navigate "up" but have enabled navigate "down".
The usefulness and efficiency of this configuration has far exceeded even my rather optimistic expectations.
