a question about searching in TC

Post by *Zenman »

Dear all,
I have some files with '.' in the names, such as 'Calculus (2nd ed.).djvu'.
when I searched (Alt+F7) with the keyword 'ed.', TC returned nothing.
If I used the keyword '*ed.* , or ed\. with the regular expressions checkbox selected, TC will find these files.
My question is:
Why TC finds nothing with the keyword 'ed.'? :?:
Thanks in advanced!

Try *ed.* without RegExp it also should work.

Yes, *ed.* works well.
What I want to know is why ed. does NOT work.

IMHO TC allows searching partial names without special chars like "?" or "*" (eg. you can search "ed" instead of full "*ed*") but when it find a dot in a searched fraze it "thinks" it's a full name of the file, ie. file ed without any extension. Otherwise it could be impossible finding exeactly such a file, it would always find several files.

This is because this syntax means: No extension after the dot.

*ed.

will find those names:

Red
subsided
Johnes_ed
ed

but not:

Red.color.txt
Johnes_ed.lst
