Too many Hard Drives

Post by *Spyros »

Hi all,
I have a rather stupid problem. Every time I unplug an external hard drive (USB or Firewire), TC doesn't refresh. It shows the removed drive. So at this time I'm writing, I see 5 drives more (of course no one is real and no one is working). If the PC doesn't reboot for some days, the number goes up until reboot.
How can I fix this? Any help?

Most importantly, does Explorer behave differently?

Hi,

please check
[Configuration]
DeviceChange=1

In menu open
Configuration/Changes Settigns file directly
and search for this setting.

If it's not there it cannot be the reason as the default is 1 (detect drive changes).

Hi Lefteous,
I checked the [Configuration], there is no entry for DeviceChange=1.
I add it manually, but nothing changed.

2Spyros: How do you "remove" the drives ?

- just pull the USB-plug
or
- use the save remove entry at the tray item

Hi sqa_wizard,
I must say that I just pull the USB-plug. I do this because when I go to safe remove entry at the tray, the system tells me that I cannot stop the drive and to try later, so I just pull the cable.
Well I understand that it is not the best thing for the drive but I don't know why windows cannot stop the drive (I 've seen the same problem in other PCs also).
But still windows explorer is ok (does not show the unpluged drives).

Please, try closing those TC tabs, which are showing that USB drive contents to you, before you go to safe remove tray entry. What happens?

Hi XPEHOPE3KA,
I always close these tabs, then close TC, then go to safe remove tray.

BTW, does anybody know of any incompatibility with nforce4 chipset and TC??

Spyros.

Try Unlocker to figure out who hooks on the drive and locks it ...

Simmilar USB drive problem (not sure TC related)

Post by *Theo vd Berg »

Dear forummembers

I have found the thread in the TC forum by 2Sphyros with the exact problem as I am confronted with.
At the end of that thread is is not clear to me what the solution for that problem is and/or any workaround.

Do you have any idea how to cope with:
**There is no difference in behavior between removable disks(usb sticks) or removale hard drives, in my case 2 X LaCie 250 GB with PGP virtual disk on it.
**Unmounted USB drives still occupy a driveletter after they are unmounted
**Next mounting takes a new free driveletter.
**Virtual PGP drives behave the same.
**Everyting normal after reboot, game starts over again on next USB mounting.
"my computer" does not not show empty drive letters as TC does.

It started sudden after I do not know wich upgrade of what program. I use this configuration for years.
I am not shure if this is TC related or Windows XP or PGP or hardware.
I cannot find any related issue in Microsofts Knowledge Base.

Any suggestions?
