Cannot access network folders

I followed your instructions. On the subfolders I can't access across the network, there are only two permissions: "default" and "SYSTEM" and they are both set to full.

On the folders I can access over the LAN, there are seven permission Names. These include "default" and "SYSTEM" as well as "Administrators," "BUILTIN\Account Unknown," "CREATOR OWNER," "Everyone," and "Users." In these, "default" is set to "Special Access."

Using the following directory structure as an example:
SharedRoot contains Parent1.
Parent1 containts SubA and SubB.
SubA contains SubA1.
SubB contains SubB1.
Parent1 is accessible across the network. None of its subdirectories are.

When I move SubA into SharedRoot and then move it back to where it was using TC, SubA becomes accessible across the LAN but SubA1 remains inaccessible.

When I move SubB into SharedRoot and then move it back to where it was using PowerDesk, SubB becomes accessible across the LAN and so does SubB1.

It seems like moving files in or within a shared subdirectory with a program other than TC passes along shared permissions correctly while TC only gives those permissions to the directory being moved and not any further down the tree.

TC does not use port 80 for accessing network shares, only for downloading via HTTP when you press the URL button and paste a http URL. I suggest that you install the freeware etherreal and watch what is going on.

I did try your suggestion about permissions and posted the result.

If you are asking me to try the ethereal program, I can do that, but it seems to me the problem isn't there. It doesn't matter what program I use to access the folders (Windows Explorere, SyncToy, TC). When I move files on the target machine with TC, the files are not accessible across the network. When I move them with another program (PowerDesk, Windows Explorer), they are accessible across the network.

So, it seems the problem has to with how the movement of the files is handled by TC. When they are moved with TC from a non-shared folder to a shared folder, they do not become available to the network.

Sorry, I have no idea what these programs do differently. Total Commander just calls MoveFile() to move files within the same volume, or copies them with moving between volumes, nothing special...

Well, I appreciate the honesty of your answer. I love TC and wish it would work for this. It's very frustrating to have to switch to another -- otherwise inferior -- program just to do this task.

Am I the only one facing this?
