Of course it should be customizeable and there should be seperate colors for "active" and "inactive" filtering.

Options:
  • Use "strikeout" on the Panel's path.
  • Display the Filter in the Panel's path, while filter is active.
    • Restore the displayed path when the filter is cleared/removed.
Filter should remain active until it's cleared. Regardless whether TC was minimized/restored, or tabs switched.

Strongly agree!

Is there any chance to attract Christian attention to this topic after it was moved to "TC Behaviour which will not be changed"?

No, this is by design, sorry. The quick filter is global per side, not per tab. Btw, you can restore the last used quick filter with Ctrl+Shift+S.

Nice shortcut! Thank you.

Now I understand the problem reason. If quick filter is for panel then I understand why it is reset after switching to another tab. Is there any chance that filter will linked to tab in future versions?

It's quite improbable for the reasons I gave above.

As far as I can see the reasons you gave are: (the reasons are good)
ghisler(Author) wrote:The problem is that you don't see what is being filtered out with the temporary filter - only a small filter icon is shown. You wouldn't remember a filter on a different tab set 3 weeks ago.
and:
ghisler(Author) wrote:IMHO it's much easier to keep track of just one or two filters, than of multiple tabs with different filters in each.

Why do we have to keep track of anything in TC? Why do we have to remember this 2 [important] switches?
IMO keeping the things to remember at 2 instead of 10 is fighting symptoms, instead of solving the problem:

I politely ask for a more obvious filter state indicator.
Please?

Couldn't the existing "quick-filter" be displayed in the "Name" tabstop.
As far as what text string that it is filtering, or the status bar (bottom) but the Name TabStop would be the most visible, and it generally has a lot of empty unused space.

Balderstrom,
Couldn't the existing "quick-filter" be displayed in the "Name" tabstop.
Good idea, if doable.
it generally has a lot of empty unused space
"Generally" meaning "in Full view", I assume.

Christian, why not implement the following solution:

1) Quick filter is saved for tab.
2) Be default filter is reset after switching to another tab.
3) There is a switch in wincmd.ini allowing filter to remain after switching to another tab?
4) If switch is activated filter remains until removed or TC app is closed.

I will add it to my wish list - but TC8 RC1 is now feature complete, so I will not add any new features now.

Thank you very much! I understand that there is no way to include it in 8.0.

Could moderator move this topic back to "TC suggestions" as Christian agreed that the requested feature can be added in the future release?
