Can't use right-click when choosing a file

Post by *Godhead »

My problem is that I can't use right-click on any file ( e.g .txt ). It's just highlights the selected file, but due to this, I can't for instance choose which program to use to open the file with ?

I have used Commander for a long while, and probably I deleted/changed something I shouldn't.

Any advice ?
Regards
/Andreas

When I mark a file, then choose "Properties" under the Files tab, I get this exception :

"Access violation at address 018E4D60.Read of address 00000000.
Please report this error to the Author,
with a description of what you were doing when this error occured!"

:) Hello, welcome aboard !

- I suppose you have the right-click set for selection?
- You can :
• Either press the button longer (~1 second) to get the local menu,
• Or go to Options >> Operation and choose the left-click to select the files… that I do, and no problem with the RMB then…
- Also, please Read The Famous Manual …and use the Search here ;)

 Kind regards,
Claude

This problem is well-known and has been discussed many times here: The problem you have is most probably a faulty shell extension.

To correct it, please try the following:
1. Get the free tool ShellExView:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
2. Disable all context menu shell extensions one by one (you can hide/keep
those belonging to Windows, they are usually OK).
3. Continue until Total Commander stops crashing

:) Please, edit you messages instead to post again and quote yourself, this should avoid to reply to an incomplete issue in the meantime, and indeed to waste time ! :P
- Just a friendly tip, I don't moderate this forum…

- Anyway, using the left-button to mark¦select files causes less issues generally
- regardless to the Shell defect you have currently-.

Claude

Thank you very much both of you. Everything is up and running :D I still though can't figure out what I have done to get this problem, since I've been using Commander for a long time.

Anyway, thy again :D !

Best Regards
