Change copy to move ?

Post by *Jarik »

Hi, new user here.

Silly question I'm sure, but how can I change TC to simply move a file instead of copying it when I select it and drop it in a folder ?

There is always a confirmation box asking me stuff, and I simply want to place a file in a new folder, not copy it.

Hope that makes sense.

Press left mouse button and drag the folder.
While draging, press the right mouse button, and relese the left on the target folder.
Assuming you are righthanded :)

Or press Shift while dragging.

Confirmation can be turned of in configuration.
EDIT:

Drag&Drop (copying files with the mouse)
If this option is disabled, the files will be copied immediately without a dialog box asking for the target directory when copying / moving files with the mouse.

Thanks a bunch, Frenky.

Feels a bit strange having to use both mouse buttons for this, but I guess I can get used to it.

Thanks again.

The Windows standard is to hold the Shift button when you release the mouse button, you better get used to that, so than you have the same behaviour in Explorer. You even can see the mode in the mouse cursor, press shift while dragging, and the mouse pointer changes to show the dragging mode.
PS: the possible modes are:
Ctrl: copy
Shift: move
Ctrl-Shift: create shortcut.
I switched to Linux, bye and thanks for all the fish!

Contrary to Explorer you can move with TC across partitions and drives with the same mouse-action.

Of course that is good.

I just wanted to point it out for those who get common with it and wonder when they have to use Explorer.

This is a confirmation of my strong dislike about the method of drag and drop. It's just too insecure, because it is too much dependent of the capability and accuracy of physical motion. It's not more easy, but more complicated in practice.
If the actions are simply done with a button (F5 and F6), or the corresponding ones on the keyboard, nothing can go wrong.
Set one side of the screen as the source, the other side as destination, and choose F5 for copying and F6 for moving.
Moving means copying a file to a new folder and then delete the source.
You can find a short description of this here .
