[BUG] FTP download

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[BUG] FTP download

Post by *star_vision »

I have found not palatable bug at work with FTP
There is a following:
I connected with ftp a server also have chosen necessary files for gallop.
While I chose files, ftp the server because of a time of a miss has disconnected session.
At the beginning of copying Total Commander creates (renews) new connection and tries to carry out uploading of the files chosen by me and completely hangs!!! It is possible to remove process only. The button of a cancelling does not function.

I shall try to describe anew a problem especially a technical language, without emotions...

I have found bug (error) in Total Commander 7 at work with FTP

She consists in the following:

I have incorporated with ftp server, have chosen files necessary for me on ftp server.
While I chose files, have taken place 3~4 minutes.
For this time ftp server has disconnected my connection (has finished a session of connection).
I did not know, that he has disconnected my connection. Also has started to copy files with ftp server...
Total Commander at the beginning of copying has tried to open anew ftp connection (session) and buzz (Process "Totalcmd.exe" has ceased to answer inquiries of system).
Totalcmd.exe it is possible to remove only through "Dispatcher Tasks".

I hope this time me it will be possible to understand... :)

P.S. This bug is very easy for checking up.
Incorporate with ftp, choose a file on copying.
Disconnect connection with internet.
Anew incorporate and start process of copying with ftp
Total Commander will try to create anew connection and buzz.

Please ask your server admin to increase the timeout from 2 minutes to 10-15 minutes, the standard for most servers. 2 minutes is just too small.

You can also try F2/Ctrl+R in the ftp panel to force a refresh+reconnect.

I always try to bypass this bug.
It would be simple conveniently if the program gave out the information on a mistake and it would suggest ways of the decision of a problem (to connected or be disconnected), instead of it is simple buzz.... ;(

This is pretty annoying bug, and I think many users can encounter it - especially in local network with high traffic FTP servers.
It should be fixed as it is REALLY annoying when TC hangs each time you try to copy file after connection has timed out.
