Strange Timing Problem

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Strange Timing Problem

Post by *Thomas Engelke »

Hello!

For me, TC 7.0b3 seems to have a timing problem. I think it exists since 7.0b2.

Often times, when I come back from an application (tested with multiple applications), when it seems that TC is back in control, it does not react to any keys and/or mouse events.

I have a pretty good idea how the messaging system in Windows works. Usually, when there's a window that's not reacting to messages, the messages are queued and will be processed as soon as the application pings back to the queue. But here, the problem is different. Every message sent during this timeout (cursor key movement, doubleclicks) are swallowed, as if the queue is emptied.

If I continue to use a cursor key, after 2-3 seconds TC seems to be back in business and scrolls normally.

I have never seen this happen with lister, only with external applications (irfanview, vim via F4).

Anybody experienced something similar?

Regards,

TME

Edit: Small update. This also happens for directly called applications (just now, I tried shellexview), not just applications started through starting a registered file.

Yes, yes, yes, that's my exact problem. Nice to see I'm not alone. But shouldn't bug reports for the betas appear in this part of the forum, not in the language-specific boards? *confused*

:) Hello !

• I guess that the non-German speakers would be pleased that an abstract of that topic be posted here… ;)

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce this problem here. Do you use any of these functions?
- Separate tree
- Auto-refresh when the file system changes
- Logging
- Overlay icons?

Please turn off auto-refresh and test for a few days without it. It may be slow especially in low memory situations.

Dear GHisler,

the problem is not from TC. Usually, I use TC for all file management tasks. But just now, I had to use Explorer for that. And et voila, it showed the same non-reacting delay.

Thank you,

Thomas

Ah, very interesting. So it's probably caused by a tool running in the background, like a virus scanner?
