I'm sorry, backup files are absolutely necessary (at least for files >1 MB), because the file is mapped into memory. Only the changes made by the user are stored in separate buffers.

No problem, but could they please optionally be deleted after the operation is finished?

Yes, this could be done. I will postpone this until after the TC7.0 final release though, I still don't trust my self-written text editor 100% yet...

AFAIK is not possible to configure Tc 7.02a to automatically delete .BAK files after comparison, may you implement it on a future version ?, thanks.

Until the backup files can be deleted by TC, you can find an AHK workaround in this thread:

The next version will delete .bak files from the TEM\_tc folder when the main file is deleted (e.g. when re-packing or re-uploading). However, normal .bak files will not be deleted for now.
