Directory Hotlist too large in Windows 10

Post by *Kazik »

I have recently moved from Windows 7 to Windows 10. The font used to display Directory Hotlist is larger than before and the interline spacing is much bigger. As a result the Directory Hotlist does not fit into the screen. I have not found any options controlling this.

The directory hotlist uses a standard Windows popup menu, which is configured system-wide, not per application. But it seems that Windows 10 is missing the necessary configuration dialog...

Windows 10 is missing the necessary configuration dialog...
And so does Windows8.x!

You can still set the font and font size along with some of the colors by editing windows registry directly at:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics] - fonts
and
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Colors] - colors

Font family and size has to be entered in hexadecimal, so it is a bit tricky - the easiest is to set it in a Windows 7 or XP via UI and then import the WindowMetrics to Windows 10's registry.

Isn't this exactly the menu optimization of Windows 8/10 for touch devices?

Hmm, if Kazik updated from Windows 7 to windows 10, it is not likely that he uses a device wit a HID-compliant touch screen.

It is a Windows 10, everything is possible, even w/o touch screen. :D

Well, I don't have that option on my Windows 10 laptop. But I do have it on my Windows 8.1 2-in-1 Laptop/Tablet with touch screen, so I think there has to be a touch screen available for the option to turn up in the device manager.

A touch pad device accidentally detected as touch screen could be the reason.

Yes, I've heard something similar too...

There were a lot of quite strange things after Windows 7, and W10 has a bunch of such ones too... I still don't understand why basic themes have such ugly thick borders, why classic theme is gone, why W10 has icons like W3.11 had, and now here are ugly big menu fonts. So I'm pretty happy with W7 and w/o such problems. :D
