About TCMC...

Post by *eugensyl »

Yesterday I receive a virus warning (AVG 8 - eight) about TCMC.EXE (multiple TC command). I have downloaded again and it was the same.

Until yesterday, with older virus definition, no problem was awarning with this file. Maybe is a mistake, or the file must be recompiled.

Anybody else?
My Best Wishes,

Eugen

Good evening, Eugensyl.

You might like to upload the file TCMC.EXE from your disk to e.g. Virustotal and allow their 32 AV software products to check the file.
This will hopefully clear up the question whether AVG displays a false alarm or whether AVG is right.

HTH,
Karl

Thanks!

I don't said so. It's not a TC bug, but I don't know who is exactly the owner (I supose m^2) in order to report.

The file is downloaded from totalcmd [dot] pl and the MD5 is identical.
That's the problem.
I want to know if somebody else have the same behavior.

Anyway, I will send the file for analysis.

BTW, the file (TCMC), until TC will have this feature, is excelent. I hope is a false alarm.
My Best Wishes,

Eugen

I was dent the file and 31% of antivirus programs reported as 'suspicious'.

Please dowload the file from here: http://totalcmd.pl/download/add/Add/TC_Multiple_Commands and send the zip file to the site above (virustotal).

Sorry for inconvienience...

I don't think so... but I must stop use it.
My Best Wishes,

Eugen

:) Hi Eugen !

• I downloaded the ZIP, and Avira AntiVir doesn't find any problem !
- I compared the EXE by contents with the one I've here for a while, it's exactly the same !
- It's indeed a false positive from your AV softs ! That's not rare…
Once, suddently mine found out a small ICL I made myself as "Trojan", it was wrong, of course…
They corrected quickly @ Avira after checking…

I downloaded the ZIP, and I extracted TCMC... « Avast »doesn't find any problem !
I have analysed the file with « Kaspersky » who said "You're clean!"

I am the author.
What a shame...I have another TCMC, not that dirty one in works, but I'll report it to AV makers as false positive (probably tomorrow).
You can trust me or not, but I claim that the one downloaded from totalcmd.pl is safe.

The problem seems to be the UPack compression. Maybe UPX would be the better alternative.

Thanks for the suggestion, I think that next time I'll use UPX.

I'm sure it is. Please don't be angry.
Maybe is better to solve such a problem before spread an unsure program.
I confirm, I use it TCMC many years and I don't have any problem.

Switching from UPack to UPX doesn't help to make these crappy AV apps any better. You have to contact and tell them about the false detections, otherwise they'll never start to do their job correctly.

Here you have an example of a massive UPX false positive, a compiled AHK script called "Barnacle" from Skrommel:

So, is UPX the better choice? It depends, obviously... ;)

Hello,

Another false positive, now with Avast Antivirus 4.8. This information is in case you wish report this file to avast.
This happens since data base 080704-1 (today), TCMC.exe is identify as Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}
I know that there isn't problem with the file, but I use often and avast doesn't allow me execute it (even if I add tcmc.exe to the exclude list)
I can read English, but... I write like Tarzan. (sorry)
