Cannot interrupt "scanning of files" for a delete

Post by *lchiocca »

Some of our development processes create a lot of temporary files that need to be cleaned out from time to time. These files are located in different directories. The way is pretty easy: connect to that shared network drive, go to the first directory to delete, press F8 (delete) and press ESC to stop "scanning", press the "background" button, go to the second directory and do the same thing again.

For the first directory pressing ESC sometimes stops scanning. For the second directory if I press ESC sometimes doesn't do anything or (even worse) it stops, brings up the dialog and after the dialog the "User Abort!" and nothing is deleted.

Since there are a lot of files I can basically see what the UI is doing:
* Bring up the delete dialog (with only the Cancel button)
* Press ESC
* The "background" button appears
* The "The directory ... is not empty" dialog appears. Press the "All" button
* "User abort" dialog pops up

Hope this info helps. If not, I can always supply more info.

Thanks
Loris

Apparently TC sees the ESC key during the delete phase in your second case, so it stops the entire operation.

That is basically what I have assumed. I could disable "calculate space occupied" and the "get confirmation for non-empty dirs" for this specific use case, but then I don't see the use of the ESC key during the scanning. Is there another way of interrupting the scanning process on a delete operation (other than the ESC key)?

I found a workaround today to my problem: by pressing shift-ESC (instead of simply ESC) it works every time. The OS switches the current window, but better than waiting for 10 minutes until the directory was scanned.

Hmm, this should work much better now just with ESC in TC 7.04...

You're absolutely right. I was still using 7.03 :oops: and with 7.04 it seems to work perfectly.

Many thanks!
