Access validation at address 010636A1

Post by *bildos »

Hello All,
I just perform small test:
1. Downloading rar archive in progress
2. During downloading I enter to archive I try to copy file from archive.
3. I recived: "Disk error"
4. I click OK.. I recived: "Access validation at address 010636A1"

I think it's bug... (Access validation at address 010636A1)

Info: sorry I'm new user and I'm not able to post screenshot because of forum limits for new users.

:) Hello ! Welcome aboard !
…I recived: "Access validation at address 010636A1"
• Don't you mean "Access violation…" ?

• Well, IMHO this handling is not normal, personally I would never attempt such a copy of files
by opening an archive that's still downloading…

- Let's wait and hear the Author's opinion…

 Kind regards,
Claude

Looks like an error in unrar.dll (from RAR author). To my knowledge, there is no newer version of unrar.dll yet...

I can reproduce the bug with both versions of unrar.dll
The bug occurs when i try to copy a folder or 2+ files (but not single file) from locked RAR archive.

I think it should be reported to rarlab. Sorry I don't have time to do that.

RAR development (for e-mail address, see http://www.rarlab.com/feedback.htm) wrote: I cannot reproduce it with latest unrar.dll called from UnRDLL.c
sample provided with the library. I tried to unpack rar files opened
by other program in different file sharing modes. Also I tried to
unpack truncated rar files. But all what I had seen are CRC errors
and file open errors, but not the access violation. If anybody can
explain me how to reproduce it with UnRDLL.c, then it will help me
a lot. If it is reproducible only with Total Commander, then I'll
probably need assistance from TC developers, because I need to know
what TC did exactly before the crash. Was it after return from
a callback function or after RARProcessFile call.

Can you please tell me what exactly you did? How did you lock the archive? I tried it by opening a background transfer manager, then set the speed limit to 1k/sec and copy a large RAR with F5-F2, then opened the RAR and unpacked two files. No problems so far...

I followed bildos steps, start downloading a big RAR file from internet using Internet Download Manager, while downloading i opened that RAR archive and select 2 files to extract and the bug occurred.

I also made a little program (for my own use) to lock/unlock any file, try it
1. Select any RAR archive and paste its path then click Lock button
2. Go to that archive and try to unpack a folder or 2+ files

Followed by
3. Error msg: Disk error
4. Click OK
5. Error msg: Access validation at address ****. Read of address FFFFFFFF.

Confirmed. Address varies, examples: 014C36A1, 015836A1, 016D36A1.
