Right Click in Tablet PCs and W7

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Right Click in Tablet PCs and W7

Post by *ctitanic »

This is something that I reported already right when W7 beta was released. Right Click is not working when you hold the pen in the screen. This issue has been present in 5 builds of W7 that I have tested what makes me believe that this issue will be present in the soon to be released RC1.

Unfortunately I don't have any solution for you, sorry, because I don't have access to a tablet PC.

As for as I know there is not anything special in the way the right click is handled in a touch screen. I wonder why I only see this issue in your program? I have tested other explorers to see if there is the same issue and it's not: Freecommander and Explorer+

TC uses a very special right click mode by default (to select files with short right click, and to show context menu with long click). I assume that this cannot be simulated on a tablet PC.

Have you tried to switch to left mouse button selection mode? Then a long left click should cause a short right click.

I tried that but it did not work. Now, my question is, why in Vista it works fine?

Difficult to say - maybe Vista sends other mouse messages than Windows 7? Maybe on Vista the check whether the left button is down returns false in this case, but true on Windows 7? There are really many possibilities. Unfortunately I don't currently see a way to test this, or is there a way to trick Windows 7 to think that a mouse is actually a touch screen?

No that I know. But I'm willing to test anything you want to get this fixed. I have been using your program since long time ago when it was Windows Commander and I don't want to give up on it because of W7 and I'll be forced to be using W7 because so far is the best OS that have came out from Microsoft to be used in Tablet PCs and Touch Screen devices.

Thanks - looks rather complex. Probably too difficult to implement without a real device.

I don't have a spare device to send you but I'm willing to help you with any test you may need.

All I need is a way to SIMULATE a touch screen device with a mouse or touch pad. Is this really not possible with Windows7?

This is the thing, so far the only program with this issue that I have found is yours. I do not see any other way to simulate this situation.

Yes, I asked an MVP for help, but even he couldn't find out what's wrong. I will probably purchase a tablet PC in October when they will be shipped with Windows 7 just to test this problem, since it seems to be impossible to simulate it on a "normal" computer...
