What about the main suggestion of this thread: Changing the location of the quick search window?

Any comment on this?

Sorry if I missed a similar proposal, the thread is quite large already, but I saw here only battles about where to put the Quick Search dialog so that everyone was happy. But why not make it floating, so that everyone could place the dialog where he himself finds it most appropriate for his needs? As shown on this fake screenshot:

And, of course, make TC remember the position (independently for the left and right panels and, probably, also independently for left/right separate trees).

Samuel:

It could also have docking abilities.
chmod a+x /bin/laden -- Allows anyone the permission to execute /bin/laden

How do I un-overwrite all my data?

Ah, indeed. Thanks for pointing.

And be resizable, too.

Also, it is possible to make such a dialog without title at all and make it possible to drag it by the "Search" text located to the left, but it would hardly be intuitive…

There is one thing that is redirected while it shouldn't IMO.
Arrows.
I disagree. The arrows are needed at least in brief view and custom columns view for horizontal scrolling.

I have to agree with Mr. Ghisler on this one.

I still don't like it, but you're right, it shouldn't be changed.
