7.5 b5: Open RAR takes 3 seconds

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

7.5 b5: Open RAR takes 3 seconds

Post by *CWempe »

I have a folder with *.rar, *.r00, *.r01.

By opening (ENTER or dubleclick) it takes about 3 sec. to show the one file, wich is packed in theses archives.

I recognized this bug first in 7.5b1.
Using en external unpacker (winrar.exe) takes no effect.

I can reproduce this bug an another pc. Both Vista x64.

Can anybody confirm this bug?

TC 7.5 now reads all files from all parts when you double click a RAR. Depending on the size of the RAR files, it can take a while to read them...

That is not the answer i was hoping for. :(

It really costs produktivity if you upack many archives like this. :)

Anyway. Maybe it can be optiomized in further versons.

How big are these RAR files? How many files to they contain?

Btw, you can unpack them with Alt+F9 on the one with .rar extension without opening the file first if you don't need to unpack just some specific files...

In this Example:
18 parts
each is 20 MB
the whole archive has one packed file

But I will try Alt+F9 :)

Maybe it was an antivirus guard once again?

That's indeed a possibility. Or maybe TC tries to scan the other parts in vain for more headers? I will check that.
