QuickView & ZIP Archives

Post by *Balderstrom »

I've noticed an odd bug?
With the following Clico.zip (contents):
Clico.exe
Clico(98).exe
readme.txt
ReadyToTransfer.wav
TransferCompleted.wav
unicows.dll
With QuickView enabled, TC plays the ReadyToTransfer.wav file instead of displaying the readme.txt file.

Do you use any lister plugins which may be doing that? What happens when you press F3 on the zip?

* Opens up Lister showing binary data.

Strange though, I redownloaded it to double-check:
http://www.mgpsoft.net/Downloads/Clico.zip

TC plays the wav file with QuickView.

But if I unpack it and create a new zip file with either WinRar or TC's native zip handling then the readme.txt is displayed as usual.

Enabling Sort Mode -> Unsorted (inside the archives):
Clico_rar.zip
Clico.exe
Clico(98).exe
readme.txt
ReadyToTransfer.wav
TransferCompleted.wav
unicows.dll
Clico.zip (original):
Clico(98).exe
Clico.exe
TransferCompleted.wav
ReadyToTransfer.wav
unicows.dll
readme.txt
(*) Lister shows binary data dump for both the original and the Clico_rar.zip

:) Hello !

• This doesn't occur here using the original ZIP you give the link to.
- Opening the ZIP and marking the readme.txt file, it's displayed alright in the Quick View panel with Ctrl+Q.
- Thus, you have probably some plugin¦script¦tool causing that oddity, like the Author assumes…

2Balderstrom,

I get the same as Clo does. It shows the readme file fine. Sounds like you have some interference from something somewhere.
chmod a+x /bin/laden -- Allows anyone the permission to execute /bin/laden

How do I un-overwrite all my data?

I'm not opening the zip file, the cursor is ON the zip file, with QuickView enabled.

2Balderstrom,

I get the same thing as you do when I do it like that.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Strange way

Post by *Clo »

2Balderstrom

:) Again…

• Without opening the ZIP, I get also the WAVE file played.
- However, I think that's a strange way to see the contents… Why the Quick View might display the text file prior only ?
- F3 shows also binary here, of course.

In Quick View without plugins, the WAV is also displayed, but as binary (not played).

New in Version 3.02 (14.4.1997):
- CTRL+Q on archive shows contained file_id.diz, readme*, or *.txt (in this order)
According to this, TC must show readme file instead of playing sound:)
Nice bug:)

BTW, TC works in wrong way just because of file order in archive. If you unpack and pack files in new archive, all will work fine... but if you remove readme.txt from archive and add it again... you'll get gurgle again :) seems that TC searches just 'read' part of filename (I tried to change just 2 bytes of file - name "ReadyToTransfer" to RealyToTransfer" - all work fine, TC shows readme file) - maybe because file may have name "readme" or "read me".

It is apparently due to the name of the ReadyToTransfer.wav file starting with "read" - if I change it to fx. ReayToTransfer.wav then the readme.txt file is shown.

So somewhere along the line, probably by mistake:
"CTRL+Q on archive shows contained file_id.diz, readme*, or *.txt"
has been changed to:
"CTRL+Q on archive shows contained file_id.diz, read*, or *.txt"

In the Multimedia section of lister, all the boxes are checked, as well as:
Use IrfanView/XnView: C:\Program Files\¤IMAGE\IrfanView\i_view32.exe

I don't believe it's plugins as such, the displayed mini-gui looks like a snippet of IrfanView's sound player.

The command---

Post by *Clo »

2Balderstrom

:) Hello !

• Paul Vansumsen means : Using i.e. the command cm_SrcQuickInternalOnly to start the Quick View instead of cm_SrcQuickview
- Finally, the issue is due to the file name of that WAV, like petermad points out above, so the feature works as it's designed.
- The lack of parsing - to ensure that the file is a real text file- is another song in the case…
