Synchronize cannot delete files with filename > 256 chars

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Synchronize cannot delete files with filename > 256 chars

Post by *alm »

I discovered that TC7.50a cannot delete files with filenames longer than 256 characters on target drives.

This happens on Windows Server 2003 R2 UK (with SP2 and all updates) with both filesystems as NTFS with option Asymmetric enabled. The source is on the left side and the destination is on the right side.
When I go to the file in TC (not in Synchronize Dirs) it can be deleted without problems.

Looks like a limitation in the delete function in Synchronize Dirs functionality.

Hello, alm.

This is not a limitation implemented by Total Commander as such or by the synchronize submodul. It is a limitation implemented into the Windows Recycle Bin.
So one workaround for this Windows restriction is by - temporarily - telling Total Commander to delete objects directly (<shift><f8>) and not to move them into the recycle bin.

Problem delete paths up to 259 characters

Kind regards,
Karl

Well there is a (slightly) hidden possibility:

If you press the Synchonize button, you are asked to delete xx files.
Just press the SHIFT key while clicking on the OK button. This will delete the files without usage of the recycle bin

Thanks for adding this information, will give it a try soon.

Edit: I tested it and it works great. So with shift and ok. I did not notice the problem with normal delete as I always use Shift+Del. :-)
