MS SQL Servers - new file-system plugin

Post by *OlegY »

Hi everyone,
Try new file-system plugin.
It gives you access to local and remote Microsoft SQL Servers.
See readme for details.

Good idea :!: :!:

Access to others servers via ODBC would be welcome.

It's in version 1.3, I'm waiting 1.4 and more...

Thanks

Great plug-in. I'm using it from version 1.2.
I'm waiting for new version with new features. Especially for
- View table structure (as CREATE TABLE ..., for using with F3, F5).
- Show list of views and stored procedures with
Good work!

Hi,

Access to QUERY VIEWER directly from TABLE LIST PANE would very useful.

Now it must be invoked by clicking some table.

I have SQL Server 2000 SP3 running locally on my XP Pro SP1a workstation. When I attempt to add MS_SQL.wfx to the list in TC Configuration, TC freezes for about 20 seconds, then completely unloads from memory.

After restarting TC, I find that the MS_SQL.wfx is not in the file system plugin list.

OK. So I edit wincmd.ini manually and add MS_SQL.wfx, then restart TC. Now MSSQL appears in my Network Neighborhood! Yay!

Well, except that double clicking it causes TC to freeze and unload as before.

What could be wrong? I've never had a plugin simply refuse to load AND crash TC in the process...

Check if MS_SQL.wfx requires a DLL or function that is missing on your PC.

Use Dependency Walker or better FileInfo plugin for this purpose.

That's a good idea, only I already did and nothing is missing...

Next try, from the README :

Code: Select all

4. Check registry key values written in file MS_SQL.ini in the plugin folder.
... there are 2 entries.

Well now it works. I didn't change anything. Just crashed TC over and over trying to get it to work... using the registry viewer and also a TC ini plugin to change the ini file (because right-clicking on the SQL folder in Network Neighborhood and selecting Properties crashed TC also...

After what seemed like the 20th crash suddenly the folder responded and showed my local server. Voila!

The ini file that works is the default that came with the plugin, so I am really confused because it doesn't exactly match the path in the registry. I have an extra "SQL Server Group" folder beneath "Registered Servers X" in my registry tree.

Any way, very nice plugin. It will be very useful on a project coming up. Hope I can get it running on that other machine... :)

Thanks!

Maybe my crashes had nothing to do with the registry keys...?

Does this plugin need full MS SQL Server to work properly?

I have only Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine
installed. I can connect to the database, I can see the tables but I can't browse them (I can't use Query Viewer). Is it impossible or I'm blind and I can't find the option how to use it?

Hello,

i have major difficulties to get this plugin to work. When i add it to the plugin list i immediately get a Application Error:

The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade) occured in the application at location 0x77e73887.

and then

Runtime error 217 at 704CB0F4

and then

Plugin loading error. Maybe the plugin needs some dll ....

But i have checked already the dependencies for the wlx file and all the settings in the ini file. What can i do else ?

Any help is highly appreciated

Regards

Clas
