Easy Transfer Cable Speeds

Post by *Lope »

Testing with the Belkin F5U258, XP64 and XP, TC it gets 14MB/s while copying a large file.
Its really cool that you guys have supported these cables.
Another alternative is the Vantec ezShare cable. That gets 22MB/s but the software that comes with it is really crap!
No contest for TC.
I was wondering if all the Easy Transfer Cables are the same speed?
Is there any chance of you guys hacking the Vantec ezShare?
It does not need any drivers installed to run on any OS.

PS: You guys should work out a deal with Vantec where their device comes loaded with a portable version of Total Commander!!! That would be awesome! It would need a "For Dummies" mode to accommodate the average user.

-------

After installing the Microsoft Easy Transfer stuff, you can use 'Double Driver' to backup the actual driver files needed by the Belkin cable (just a few small files). It may be possible using devcon.exe to automate the detection and installation of the driver, and run a portable version of TC.
But really your best bet is getting involved with the Vantec guys. Their cable is really fast, doesn't need/ask for any drivers, and its got onboard storage for TC, perfect.

No chance, unfortunately. These cables come with their own software, and only this software "knows" how to access the little device in the middle of the cable. That's the great thing about the Easy Transfer cables - there is a published way how to access them.

The cable companies don't care about some shareware writers wanting to use their cables.
