ALT-F1/ALT-F2 freezes main windows while running VMWare

Post by *lesha111 »

Hi, i am using TC beta 22. I found error:
When i run vmware workstation 7/8 and start total commander beta22 on host mashine drive menu (ALT-F1/ALT-F2) freezes TC for 5-20 secs
Old versions of TC 7.57 and 8 beta 16 don't have this problem

My host and guest operating systems are XP pro SP3

What hotkey (combination) do you use in VMware to switch virtual machines?

I have Vmware 7.1.4 build-385536 installed, and I do not have this problem. My host is Windows 7 x64.

Try
CheckUsbHdd=0

in wincmd.ini [Configuration]

It's odd, this option should only affect local harddisks.

1. Do you have any drives related to Vmware in the Alt+F1 list, e.g. a mapped network drive pointing to the VM?

2. Does it hang only while one of the directories in the panels is a network drive? Or also when it's a local harddisk? Please close and restart Total Commander after each test, because the list is cached.

Hi Christian

So far no delay problems (using beta22). I have VMWare machines here, I can quickly test TC on them. (with that no parameter). I'll get back to you asap.

Christian, using beta22 (32bit):

TC on host machine (winXP32bit), linked to VM drive (via mapped drive): no delay after few min

TC on a VM (winServer2003), linked to host (and another file server on LAN), also no delay.

I'll leave TC running on both of them during tonight. gotta go home now. Will come back tomorrow morning.

G'morning

Just to confirm that using TC both on host machine and VM, I got no delays, nor any freeze.

Thanks

Hi all.

Having the similar issue. Host OS is Windows XP SP3, VMWare Player version 4.0.2 build-591240, TC 8.0 both betas 18 and 22 freeze for about 10 seconds every time it is un-minimized, regardless of current folder(s). There are two shared folders, available to guest OS (Ubuntu 11.04).
Thanks,
//Slava

Does this happen with TC on the host or in the guest?

Does my above suggestion help?

I do not have this problem, it works with Windows XP SP3 32-bit,
VMWare Player version 4.0.2 build-591 240, and with Vmware workstation v8.0.2.591240 and with TC 8.0 beta22
My host is Windows 7-32bit

Excuse my bad English and spelling. ;-)

I do not have it either, and I'm using Vmware extensively myself. Therefore please do not reply here if you don't have the problem abd don't have any ideas of what it could be.

No. I have 2 HDD, 1 SSD, and 1 virtual CDROM created by ultraiso.

I have used fresh installed TC trial and i removed wincmd.ini for experiment. I do not have a network drives.

ALT-F1 list

With CheckUsbHdd=1 ALT-F1 hangs only first time for 5-10 secs. After that it works normally until i restart Total Commander

It's very odd - anyway, I will automatically disable the CheckUsbHdd function if it's not set in the ini and the function takes longer than half a second.
