TC freezes on Windows 10 Creators Update

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

TC freezes on Windows 10 Creators Update

Post by *Useless »

Hello,

I just complete on Windows 10 Creators Update and Total Commander 9.0a freezes in various situations.

TC freezes when I want to search CTRL+S or other actions.

Could you try if this helps: http://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=327497#327497
(deactivating the GUI of QuickSearch Extended or QuickSearch Extended itself)

I also noticed some lags in the operation of TC 9.0a.

The worst lag is with the F5 and F6 operations, damaging my eyes :)

There are no strange effects here.
May be its time to update some of your drivers.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3296)
TC 11.03 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.69
QAP 11.6.3.2 x64

If you use Quick Search Extended, then you need to install the following update:

Re: windows 10 creators update - freeze/lag/flashes

Sorry to say, but it's the TC, not the windows.
All my drivers are up to date.

Hi, I had the same issue when updated to nVidia 381.78. I disabled all file/folders icons and no more freezes after restart (one must be very patient because every operation takes ages in this "freeze mode"). Then I re-enabled all associated + EXE/LNK icons and TC still works normally.
Perhaps display driver issue?

QuickSearch Extended freezed when it called an external program. I installed a new windows 10 pc last week and had several problems with updates / installations (freezes / hanging process). However no problems with Total Commander. I solved the problem by disabling Windows Defender via a registry file:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; disable Windows Defender
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WdNisSvc]
"Start"=dword:00000004

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinDefend]
"Start"=dword:00000004

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender]
"DisableAntiSpyware"=dword:00000001
Could you check if that helps you too? If it helps you may reenable Windows Defender and try to exclude folders. Enabling can be done with this registry file:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

; enable Windows Defender
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WdNisSvc]
"Start"=dword:00000003

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinDefend]
"Start"=dword:00000002

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender]
"DisableAntiSpyware"=dword:00000000

Open any advanced process viewer (e. g. Process Explorer) and search for WerFault.exe processes under the TC process. These processes write huge amounts of memory dumps (1..3 G each time) to the system partition. I have similar problems with several other apps on Creators Update (e. g. Proteus Design Suite 7), but not with TC.

TC freezes on Windows 10 Creators Update

Post by *icu2l8 »

I continue to study this bug.
When you copy (F5) or move (F6) a single file with TC 9.0 and above... you get 3-5 flashes.
When you copy/move a single file with TC 8.52a there are no flashes.
Also all the operations of winrar became very slow. I think the winrar also suffers from this windows 10 creators update.

I do not observe any of this problems :)
Also my x64 WinRAR 5.50 Beta1 doesn't suffer from any performance degradation.

2icu2l8:
No problems so far with the creators update here. It must be an
incompatibility with some driver or so. Do you also use an NVidia card as user "fleggy"?
