TC just makes normal name server lookups - which seems to fail for you. Maybe a firewall is blocking TC.

Can you send me the exact name of the server as configured in the connection? Maybe there is a special spelling which isn't supported any more (e.g. with ftp:// prefix or so).

You get error "IP address not found"?
If yes, does the server have a DNS entry, or is it just some internal name (e.g. SMB)? FTP in TC can only resolve DNS names.

Yes, they have. Some of them are public servers, others are internal hosts, but the lan also have correct DNS server.ghisler(Author) wrote:does the server have a DNS entry, or is it just some internal name (e.g. SMB)? FTP in TC can only resolve DNS names.
The names are resolvable on That windows in command line (nslookup or ping), they are working in any version of TC on Win7 or Win10, only any version of TC on Win Server has this problem.
I made some quick tests:
- Win Srv 2003, 32bit, TC 6.51, 7.55, 8.51, 9.12 - No Problem
- Win Srv 2008 R2, 64bit, TC64 8.52 - No Problem
- Win Srv 2012 R2, 64bit, TC64 8.51, 9.12 - No Problem
- Win Srv 2016, 64bit, TC64/32 7.55, 8.51, 9.12 - None of them works, also as local admin with full opened firewall

2junior013,
have you tried any other FTP client on the WS2016 box?
(Or, how did you figure the problem is specific to TC and not generally a problem with FTP communication on this WS2016 box? It could perhaps be possible that the error message in TC about the IP address not being found is misleading/inaccurate...)

Because the FTP communication itself works in TC too - If I configure it with IP, not with hostname. The problem only with the DNS resolution, not the FTP communication.elgonzo wrote:how did you figure the problem is specific to TC and not generally a problem with FTP communication
1., the DNS resolution works well in all other software on that box.
2., TC has another annoying problem on W2016, relating to TC <-> OS communication: M$ Office related files can't be opened because of "Access denied" error - not to the file itself, but the word/excel process used to open it.
So, I think it would be some communication problem between TC process and the OS itself. Maybe some kind of process isolation on W2016?

Do you see anything in the log? You can enable the log file via
Configuration - Options - FTP.

Nothing relevant :/ The log shows only the same as the connecton window, before the "IP address not found" pop-up:ghisler(Author) wrote:Do you see anything in the log?

Well, it means that TC couldn't even resolve the IP address.
What do you get when you rin cmd.exe and use command:
nslookup ftp.yourservername.hu?

...like nslookup, ping, ie, firefox, thunderbird, etc. works well with host names, with same servers too, only TC has this problem.junior013 wrote:1., the DNS resolution works well in all other software on that box.
Can You test it on a Win2016 box?
