@Lefteous:
Interesting, you think that using 3rd party tools to hide your personal data is ok while cracking to do exactly the same is not? That sounds extremely confusing.

So what is all the fuss about then if ghisler has nothing against removing personal data? Why doesn't he finally implement a solution so we don't have to use stupid tricks?

Just send your tool to ghisler then so everybody can download it from the offical site. Not that I would use it but maybe someone else might be interested to run 3rd party tools that have to be run to make other apps safe.

Besides that I already told you that cracking applications is NOT illegal in Germany as long as you keep the cracked version for you and EITHER own a license OR you don't use the app afterwards i.e. crack TC to improve your skills only.

Anyway, it's by all means allowed to fix a buggy application yourself if the author refuses to do it. Revealing personal data is a bug and it won't be fixed probably (how long have customers been asking for that?) so I do what I have to do to protect my anonymity.

it's illegal' stuff we've already heard, didn't we?
Well, that's why I'm wondering why icfu didn't stop to suggest this solution
Still also the only real solution, as I recall, eh?
Well, it seems to as if you haven't read my last posting to it's end...
Please, be at least constructive or begone. What is WRONG with everyone in here today? Flame wars? C'mon, I can't waste my time on this... I guess I'll have to go find the hack.
I already did so and I' sure there will be a legal solution soon!

Cracks change an executable. I'm just sending windows messages...
Cracks change the titlebar caption, but they a lot more than that.
Most important point: The "3rd party tool" cannot be a crack, because my name in the titlebar is not a copy protection. This has been mentioned in this thread multiple times....

If someone posts a screenshots and using a editing tool to hide his personal information - is he a cracker?
Just send your tool to ghisler then so everybody can download it from the offical site. Not that I would use it but maybe someone else might be interested to run 3rd party tools that have to be run to make other apps safe.
I cannot do this in the current state of the program. It works for my license only, but I will make it more flexible - be patient!
Besides that I already told you that cracking applications is NOT illegal in Germany as long as you keep the cracked version for you and EITHER own a license OR you don't use the app afterwards i.e. crack TC to improve your skills only.
Laws have changed this year. You may not crack an application. It's only allowed for academic reasons. A personal use of crack for a commercial product is forbidden.
Or maybe my copyright professor is wrong?

Your copyright professor is wrong. Tell him to read the "Deutsches Urheberschutzgesetz" 09/2003 before telling his students fairy tales:
http://www.transpatent.com/gesetze/urhg11.html#69c
http://www.transpatent.com/gesetze/urhg11.html#69d

§ 69c
Zustimmungsbedürftige Handlungen

Der Rechtsinhaber hat das ausschließliche Recht, folgende Handlungen vorzunehmen oder zu gestatten:

1. die dauerhafte oder vorübergehende Vervielfältigung, ganz oder teilweise, eines Computerprogramms mit jedem Mittel und in jeder Form. Soweit das Laden, Anzeigen, Ablaufen, Übertragen oder Speichern des Computerprogramms eine Vervielfältigung erfordert, bedürfen diese Handlungen der Zustimmung des Rechtsinhabers;

2. die Übersetzung, die Bearbeitung, das Arrangement und andere Umarbeitungen eines Computerprogramms sowie die Vervielfältigung der erzielten Ergebnisse. Die Rechte derjenigen, die das Programm bearbeiten, bleiben unberührt;

3. jede Form der Verbreitung des Originals eines Computerprogramms oder von Vervielfältigungsstücken, einschließlich der Vermietung. Wird ein Vervielfältigungsstück eines Computerprogramms mit Zustimmung des Rechtsinhabers im Gebiet der Europäischen Union im Wege der Veräußerung in Verkehr gebracht, so erschöpft sich das Verbreitungsrecht in bezug auf dieses Vervielfältigungsstück mit Ausnahme des Vermietrechts;

I use TC "bestimmungsgemäß" including "Fehlerberichtigung".

If you have any news concerning recent changes post them.

Some remarks---

:) Hello Jeff !
• Well,
1. what about the same in brief and in English ?

2. That concerns the German users - most certainly numerous - but not the others…

3. TC being a SWISS software, what about the Swiss Laws?

4. The TC license agreement forbids any change of any file without the written Author's permission…

5. It should be interesting to know the European rules about that…

1) The same in brief is what I have written above a dozen times, I am tired... ;)
Cracking for personal use to fix errors and to make an application work as expected is allowed in Germany and needs no agreement of the author that's what the "Ausnahmen von den zustimmungsbedürftigen Handlungen" mean.

2) I have no ideas in detail about other countries.

3) No idea, see 2).

4) Forbidden when passing on TC! I don't need an agreement when modifying it for private use only.

5) Well, Swiss is not part of EU so it doesn't matter anyway. ;)

Are you sure this is allowed, pdavit?
You really should check license agreement before modifying TC installation... ;)

Well, TC is Swiss made but distributed worldwide. So, to my recollection what is applicable legally is to satisfy the license of the application itself in addition to laws of the individual countries.

An example is the crypto packer dll for TC. You can enjoy it in France but not in Switzerland while modifying the exe file without author’s permission cannot be enjoyed in both countries. One has to do with TC’s license and the other one with laws of the individual countries.

Now, if there is a conflict/contradiction of “rules”, I’m not sure what happens then!

Well, if you don't want to see your name in a title bar SO MUCH, you can get rid of it w/o any TOTALCMD.EXE modification, but you'll have to hit a button on a nag screen as a bonus... %)[/face]

You are a strange but not interesting to me creature, my might-have-been brother. You wanted me to ignore your posting - well no problems. Just tell me you understand the terms on which I'll do it. I asked you a simple question, but you can't gave an answer on it second time. I give you one more chance:

So, do we have it? Yes or no.[/face]

An other solution was already proposed :
http://www.ghisler.ch/board/posting.php?mode=quote&p=20603

It's not a crack, nor a patch nor a keygenerator ... just a "plaster on a wood leg" but it works fine. Just some memory free less...

I understand both point of view but I deplore the contents of some messages in this topics, they are not favourable to change the opinion of the Author... and I deplore it.

Sorry for my poor english

'I'm doing it using two lines of code'... well thanks a bunch dude, that was really helpful. Much more informative than the other sugesstions, indeed. I think I'll leave my comments at that; but thanks for saying I didn't read your full post. :(
Well, if you don't want to see your name in a title bar SO MUCH
:?: I'm just asking to be able to distinguish one TC from another in my menuline. I specifically stated that this name thing was irrelevant to me, actually.

I do a lot of (free) phpBB support via chat, and sometimes have a lot of windows open. Having a TC with tabs have made this a lot easier, but when having several chats and tabs in TC open on similar subjects, it gets hard remembering which tab was for what. I often get around it by opening Yet Another TC (or 2) for this. And remembering which is which and for what...

Image: http://alleykat.lir.dk/mymenuline.jpg
I just want to be able to change the first few letters of that titleline so I got something more to go on than [2], [3] etc. I'm failing to understand why some persons are going to such lengths not to understand this. :? It's no BIG issue, it'd just be nice.
