Please keep 'quick search'-dialog opened

Post by *kofifus »

Is there a way to leave the quick search search dialog box opened while there is a quicksearch filter on ?

The way things are now I find it hard to know if the file list I see is filtered or not ... keeping the search dialog opened will be very helpful

thx!

There is a small filter sign in the right lower corner of panel if filter is active.

It's impossible to lead us astray for we don't care even to choose the way.

I want to raise this issue again, hopefully to get Ghistler's attention as well

This is easily the most annoying thing about Total Commander for me - I use quicksearch 'Letters - with search dialog' - I start typing which creates a search filter, then I switch to another window and when I come back it's really confusing to see the filtered list without a good indicator ... the little red icon on the right is simply not enough ...

What I am asking is very simple, the option to leave the quick search widget visible if it is not empty

Can this pls be done ? I am a paid client and this will be super helpful to me.

Thx!

I really don't like it, it takes another line of the precious (especially on 16:9 displays) screen height, and it doesn't make searching easier at all. People will start clicking in the search window instead of using the hotkey, taking the "quick" out of the quick search.

Why? Red is more visible than an extra edit box containing just one character, or no character when no filter is set...

Thx ghisler

the issue is when going into a total commander when the file list is already filtered what you see is a filtered list and you need to look elsewhere (bottom right which on a big screen is far) to figure out it is filtered.

What I am asking for is a more visible cue that the list is filtered ... at the very least moving the red icon to the bottom left, ideally something more noticeable - either the search box opened as above or something where the folder name is or something else.

thx!

The ghisler

It wold be also very useful to add:

- an option so that when TC goes into focus quick search is automatically cleared

- a keyboard shortcut to remove the quick search (perhaps there already is one ?) instead of ctrl+s and then backspaces ...

Thx!

Yes, there is: press ESC, once to close the quick search and once more to clear the filter.
