[9.0b1x64] rubberband selection becomes unsmooth

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[9.0b1x64] rubberband selection becomes unsmooth

Post by *wanderer »

Start rubberband selection in one of the panels (let's say left for instance). While selecting, move the mouse up and down in the panel, notice how smooth the selection is. Now move the mouse to the right panel and move it up and down again. The movement now has a stuttering effect.

Sorry, I don't see any difference between left and right panel. And it's the same code running! Maybe different icons or different number of files?

OK, i'll try to be more specific.

Start rubberband selection in one of the panels (let's say left for instance). While selecting, move the mouse up and down in the panel, notice how smooth the selection is. Now without letting the mousebutton go, move the mouse to the right panel and move it up and down again. The movement now has a stuttering effect.

The point is to have started the file selection in one panel and then without leaving the mouse, move it to the other panel and then up and down. The selection acts like having a hiccup...

Actually it doesn't even select (only when the window scrolls) when you move the rubberband window out of the file panel. Maybe this has the stuttering effect for you.

OK, i'm puzzled by your answer. I'll try to create a video because what you're describing (if i understood it correctly) is a different behaviour than what i'm seeing. Maybe i'm doing something differently...

If by "long", you and Samuel mean "use rightmouse button as in NC" for selection mode, then no, i'm not using that. I'm using "left mouse button (windows standard)" option...

By view mode "long" I mean Ctrl+F2 instead of view mode "short" Ctrl+F1.

OK, scratch that. New step-by-step guide:

1. Maximize TC.
2. Open folder "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727" in the right panel. It's good because it has only a few folders on top and then files start.
3. Open C:\ (or even better a folder with no files in it ) in the left panel
4. Click the right panel (so it becomes active)
5. Start rubberband selection. Mouse mouse up and down, it's smooth.
6. Without leaving mousebutton, move it over the left panel area and then up and down. Notice the stuttering...

I still think that the "stops selecting" in that other post is the reason for the jumpiness too.

Well, if you manage to do something about the other issue before releasing b2, we'll find out if this issue is also fixed. :)
