Need command to Select files and folders with a pattern?

Post by *sexy69 »

Doghouse (2009) <- DVD
Demolition (2016).avi
Re-Kill (2015).mkv
Synchronicity (2016).mp4

To select files and folders (click the icon in the toolbar), those that have -> (2016)?

em_show(Years)
?

You can use
  • Num+, enter "*(2009)*" (without the quotes) to select all matching objects in the current directory
  • search for the objects using Alt+F7 and subsequently select them all (Num*)
  • use branch view (Ctrl+B) and subsequently use Num+ (see first option)
  • and I'm quite sure there are other ways to do it

Uh, what do you intend to do with "cd *2016*"? What do you TC expect to do? To which of the directories should it change path to? In the OP you were talking about selecting files/dirs - "cd" doesn't select anything, it changes the directory.

"Cd" not only opens but shows only those files that have: 2016
unfortunately, it does not support directories eg. DVD

Well, that may be just a side-effect. And as I said: wrong command for the purpose. You may want to try cm_SelectBoth or SELECTFILES <pattern> commands. However, I'm not sure you want to select objects (like you said in the OP) or just apply a filter to the current view (like you just said). So please, try to be more precise.

Yes, of course everything else disappears when you filter the current view. That's why I said: be more precise. When you say you only want to see what's in 2016, I just assumed you want to filter. But in your OP you said you wanted to select files/folders, although your (non-existing) command em_show(year) suggests otherwise. So, I hope you understand my confusion.

If you want to filter the current view - i.e. show only files matching the filter - use Ctrl+S. If you want to select files/dirs without hiding any files, use SELECTFILES <pattern> or cm_SelectBoth, or use the search function - choose what's the most appropriate for the current task.

Don't type the stars !
If you just type 2016 after the CTRL-S it will exactly showing your 2 wanted entries.
If this doesn't happen then you are not using TC or a version of it we don't know.
