Viewer does not render 'œ' and the 'Œ' characters correctly

Post by *Csimbi »

Copy-paste this into a UTF-8 txt file:
Double characters
æÆ
œŒ
Press F3 in TC to open via viewer.
The 'æ' and the 'Æ' characters are rendered correctly.
The 'œ' and the 'Œ' characters are rendered as bricks.
I thought it was an issue in the Fixedsys font so I changed the font to Courier and it was still a brick.

I wonder if it a conversion error or something!
Thanks for looking into it!

Character Map shows that neither Fixedsys nor Courier, which are old non-unicode fonts, contain these symbols. Code points 0x8C and 0x9C are boxes.

Why don't you use a font with a wider character set, such as "Courier New"? If you like the precise pixel look of Fixedsys, maybe you can use "Fixedsys Excelsior" instead. (I had to edit the property "fixed pitch" within the font before version 3.01 of this font would show up in the selector.)

Good suggestion, thanks!
Unfortunately I can't use any custom fonts except the ones TC displays:

Clicking "Snow more fonts" on the bottom only opens the OS'es Font dir, but a font can't be selected.

In case I type in Fixedsys Excelsior manually, it falls back to the old Fixedsys.

The dialog only shows fixed width fonts. Consolas, Courier New and Lucida Console can all show œŒ corectly.

If you change the font for "Variable" in Listers setup, you might find your Fixedsys Excelsior on the list. Then you just have to press V to make lister use that font: http://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/listerfont.png
