[9.0 final] mark files and delete problem

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[9.0 final] mark files and delete problem

Post by *Mikefield »

Seems to be a bug I found today. Please use only the arrow keys no mouse, to reproduce.

1. Quick search is set to "Letters - with search dialog"
2. Filter in TotalCommander with "br" the br2 files.
3. Mark the 3 last files in the folder with the Insert key.
4. If the 3th time the Insert key is pressed, it toggles the last file and (1st fault) the cursor goes up to the 1st file.
5. Press the Del key, nothing happens (2nd fault).

This behaviour occurs not all the time, but it happens.

1st fault is not a fault, when you have entered some text into quick search dialog, you can switch between matched items with Up/Down arrows, and Insert works as (toggle selection)+(Down)...

Regarding 2nd fault, Delete press is processed by quick search dialog (so you don't see any effect when cursor is at the end of text)...

It's still a fault! If it works correct, the last file will be toggelt on/off and not goes to the 1st file. And if the files are marked with the mouse the Del key works.

As MVV stated above: Both behaviors are by design!

You are NOT in the file list, you are in the quick search dialog.
=> going through the file entries (by cursor or INS) will wrap around the list [OK]
=> pressing the DEL key will delete the character right of the cursor [OK]

5. Press the Del key, nothing happens (2nd fault).
You have to press Escape first to close the search dialog before you can delete. When the search dialog is open Del is for deleting characters inside the dialog.
4. If the 3th time the Insert key is pressed, it toggles the last file and (1st fault) the cursor goes up to the 1st file.
This is a matter of taste, but it doesn't reflect the behaviour when the search dialog is not open (normal file selection) - in that case the cursor stays at the last file when it is reached.

I understand what you all mean, the focus is still in the quick search dialog. But than has the focus be moved to the file list if INS is used to mark files. Why should it be different as the the mouse is used.

Indeed it is correct as it is now. You cannot use Del because it's used to delete characters from quick search. You can use F8, though.

Oh-kai, thanks for confirmation. Is it possible to suggest to change it or would it be as it is.
