Overlay Icon : Terrible slow down

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Overlay Icon : Terrible slow down

Post by *VinceB »

TC 9.0 (final)

when the overlay icon option is activated, terrible display slown down occurs. Especially visible on slow network drive. Like 100 times slower than with TC 8.X.
In "Brief" mode, File and folder name (not only icones) apears slowly, one at a time... like they where in a slow "queue".

Unckecking the "Show overlay icones, e.g. for links" give a normal(like TC 8) speed behaviour.

Hmm, no problem here. Do you use any special overlay programs, e.g. Dropbox, or TortoiseSVN or so?

No overlay icon modifier program installed...
Explorer display fodler content normaly ...

For example, working on a 500K/s VPN line, a network folder containing +- 170 standard sub-folders (no file) take +- 12 secondes to display. But is almost instant with Explorer or with the overlay icon unchecked.
More over(multi-thread concern)...while the folder is slowly refreshed, TC is not responding to click, browse or anything (in the other panel, the menu etc).

That's indeed really horrible. Sorry, I have no idea why you get this problem, I have no other similar reports. :(

You can disable EXE/LNK icons on net, this will also disable overlay icons only on network drives.
